Junior data scientist

The primary purpose of this role is to provide advanced analytical capabilities to support data science initiatives. This position gains experience in various areas including, but not limited to: predictive modeling; personalization and recommendation algorithms; natural language processing and text mining; search recall, precision, ranking, and related problems; optimization and mathematical programming with applications in labor scheduling, inventory and capacity planning, network flows, and supply chain optimization

RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENTS:
- Mines and extracts data and apply statistics and algorithms necessary to derive insights.
- Collaborate with a team of other data scientists, data engineers, and business subject matter experts to solve complex business problems using statistics, math, computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data mining methods
- Utilize your skills with data science tools and frameworks (R, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Jupyter, etc), as well as Big Data and cloud computing technologies (AWS, Azure, Spark, Hive, Hadoop, Docker, Kubernetes, etc) along with many years of Bechtel-captured engineering, procurement and construction data to find insights that will inform decision-making
- Envision, develop, refine and implement algorithms and build inferential models that will significantly improve the planning, estimating, and delivery of engineering, procurement and construction projects and lead to measurable improved outcomes such as increasing new work win rates, shorter schedules, lower costs, increased safety, reduced risks, etc.
- Travel (business trips and/or short-term assignments) to jobsites and offices may be required.
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or related quantitative analytic field
- 2+ years of experience in Data Science or advanced analytics experience in industry
- In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or related quantitative analytic field
- Grasp of multiple programming languages (Python, R) and a willingness to learn new ones.
- Have been exposed to data science techniques such as: clustering, classification, neural networks, reinforcement learning, supervised and unsupervised learning, sentiment analysis, natural language processing, etc
- Foundational abilities with data visualization tools and methodologies for high- and low-dimensional datasets, as well as structured, quasi-structured and unstructured data
- Comfortable making presentations to colleagues and management on data science solutions
- Yearn to be part of groundbreaking projects that work to deliver world-class solutions
- Are motivated to find opportunity in and develop solutions for evolving challenges, and are passionate about your craft, and driven to deliver exceptional results
