Market facilitators

We Effect is a development organisation founded by the Swedish cooperative movement in 1958 to support the development of democratic organisations and societies. In our international development cooperation programmes, we are applying a human rights-based approach supporting people living in poverty to secure their rights.

We Effect is now recruiting a Market facilitator, as part of a team working with the project Income Increase & Socio-Economic Empower of Vulnerable from Rural/Suburban Areas in North Macedonia. The methodology used to facilitate the project is the Market System Development approach (MSD). The project office is based in Skopje, however you are expected to travel to project locations in-country. The employment is a fixed-term position for 9 months with a good possibility for prolongation. The probation period is three months. Expected start date 15 Oct 2024.

Main responsibilities 
This position plays a crucial part in analyzing the targeted markets and facilitating change to improve the existing market systems and value chains in the project’s selected areas in North Macedonia. It is a position that assumes a good understanding of the needs of the market to address the underlying causes of poor performance in specific markets that matter to poor people, producing scalable long-term change. The position functions as a bridge between interventions and the Market Sector Strategy.

• Provided facilitation support in the area of MSD activities to ensure the planned activities are implemneted timelu and with required deliverable quality
• Engage in regular field visits to assess the activities and intervention impelmentation progress, give technical advises/mentor, provide feedback(s) for further improvement and map potentials for collaboration
• Lead the market systems analysis and diagnostics.
• Ensure that Market Sector Strategies are not only well-designed but also resonate with the missions and visions of We Effect, the Project Partner Organisations and Market Actor Facilitators.
• Assume ownership, develop and continuously update the Market Sector Strategies, based on system analysis and diagnostics.
• Systematically identify systemic constraints and opportunities in the selected markets.
• Propose Interventions based on sound business models
• Ensuring interventions are designed and implemented with strong focus on gender equality and environment, climate change and resilience.
• Other duties as assigned.

About you
To succeed in this position your understanding, your analytical skills and your capability of staying continuously informed about our partners and the operating environment are crucial.

You have a basic understanding and interest of success factors in a market dynamic, basic knowledge of private sector development and civil society as well.

You are confident to work with all stakeholders and sectors related to the rural and semi-urban areas in the project.

You have clear and agreed‐on expectations with partners: on everything from ethical standards to roles & responsibilities of each party to benchmarks & terms of engagement.

You are a good communicator and know how to stimulate local ownership. You are a team player that can work in different team settings and also capable of working independently.


Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, rural development or other relevant social science, or equivalent experience in implementing development projects and u nderstanding of rural context, markets and local requirements is preferred.  
• Experience in project management or business development.
• Strong writing, communication, organization, prioritization, reporting, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
• Creative problem solver with strong private sector knowledge and experience.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office and internet-based application
• Being fully computer literate, as well as fluent in English language.
• Strong familiarity with project implementation methodologies.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and extremely resourceful.
• Work permit in North Macedonia.
• Driving license.
