Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Manager to ensure adherence to all FMCSA and DOT regulations while developing, implementing, and enhancing our comprehensive safety program. As the Safety Manager, you will lead the charge in fostering a culture of safety, reducing risks, and maintaining operational excellence.
SAFETY MANAGER
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Policy Development and Oversight
- Design, implement, and maintain safety policies in line with FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
- Ensure company-wide understanding and compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Review and update safety documentation, including Driver Qualification Files, Accident Reports, and Vehicle Maintenance Records.
2. Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) Compliance
- Monitor and enforce compliance with HOS regulations using telematics and ELDs.
- Conduct regular training on HOS rules, ELD usage, and compliance processes.
3. Safety Training and Development
- Develop and deliver regular training programs on defensive driving, emergency response, and load securement.
- Conduct new driver onboarding sessions to instill safety practices from day one.
4. Incident and Risk Management
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed incident reports and collaborate with legal teams when required.
- Implement preventative measures and risk mitigation strategies.
5. Audit and Reporting
- Conduct regular safety audits to ensure compliance with DOT inspection requirements.
- Prepare detailed compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Keep records of driver inspections, random drug and alcohol testing, and disciplinary actions for non-compliance.
6. Incentive and Recognition Programs
- Develop and manage programs to reward drivers for clean inspections and exemplary safety practices.
- Organize monthly or quarterly safety meetings to recognize achievements and address areas for improvement.
7. Emergency Response Planning
- Maintain and regularly update the company’s Emergency Response Plan.
- Coordinate mock emergency drills to prepare staff for real-world incidents.
8. Collaboration and Communication
- Act as a liaison between drivers, management, and external regulatory bodies.
- Communicate safety expectations clearly and effectively across the organization.
- Build strong relationships with insurance providers to ensure adequate coverage and risk management.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Transportation Management, or a related field preferred.
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director of Safety (CDS) are a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2–3 years in a safety management role, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
- Proven experience with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of safety data analysis and reporting tools.
- Proficiency in safety compliance software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to conduct field visits and inspections as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.
