Signpost Group is a fast-growing technology group that focuses on digitalizing the European education sector. The close to 400 people working at Signpost deliver hardware (Signpost Hardware), software (Academic Software), connectivity (Academic Connect), Digital study books (Lernova) and training (Fourcast for Education) to students and schools in K12 and higher education in 10 European countries.
At signpost group, we have invested heavily in the setup of a new, modern data platform to centralize, transform, expose and activate the data from our different business units and business processes. Our platform uses Snowflake as a central data warehouse, surrounded by a couple of open-source tools for data ingestion (Airbyte), orchestration (Prefect) and transformation (DBT). As an analytics engineer, you will join this ongoing effort and help us to bring our data models, pipelines and dashboards to the next level.
We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to help bring Signpost’s data efforts to the next level of maturity.
As an Analytics Engineer, your role will be to:
- Help shape our BI strategy to ensure business data needs are being met with high quality data that is simple to use and understand.
- Translate business requirements and processes into well thought out data models and KPI’s to make information accessible and meaningful for business users.
- Expose the data to business users through well-designed PowerBI dashboards based on business requirements.
- Drive the business users in adopting a self-service analytics mindset by designing and deploying quality datasets and providing support in their consumption.
- Apply software engineering principles like tests, CI/CD, pull requests,... to your analytics code development.
- Develop and implement methods to always improve the quality of data in our data warehouse. That includes auditing sources, documenting issues, driving resolutions together with other teams and implementing well-documented, performant and tested data transformations.
- Work in a small team of data enthusiasts who actively work together to help our business in becoming more data driven and have some fun together along the way
As an Analytics Engineer, you need to have the following skills:
- You display a strong understanding and empathy for business users and their data needs.
- You have strong skills in using SQL to transform raw data from various sources into a consistent data model using standard data modelling practices (Kimball, Data Vault, OBT).
- You have experience in building dashboards using a modern BI tool, preferably PowerBI.
- You can pragmatically interpret business questions and translate them into a technical analysis using the tools at your disposal (SQL, PowerBI, Excel, Python,…), resulting in a structured answer to the question.
- You are familiar with or interested in learning about modern data tools for data ingestion (Airbyte, Fivetran), orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster,…), transformation (dbt) and cloud data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, Synapse, Databricks,…)
- Prior experience using git and a Unix (can be windows WSL) terminal is a plus
- Prior experience with or interested in learning about Python as a programming language for advanced data processing
- Fluent English language communication skills, both written and spoken
